about

Released and produced independently by Max Sharam as a single, Belle of The Ball is based on the story of 'The Prom Mom', (Melissa Drexler) who gave birth in a bathroom at her Prom in New Jersey. She put the baby in the trash and then returned to the dance floor.

lyrics

Belle of the Ball

She was such a pretty child
Weaved magic with her curling wand
She really had a sense of style
though her stockings had a lengthy run.

I hear she cried a lot, was she a happy child or not?
A lonely wild and only child
it’s such a pity
She was so pretty. She could have had her pick of men.

Little Lady Debutante in your mother’s wedding dress
though you’re acting nonchalant, though you’re acting unimpressed
you’re about to drop that bomb
and have your baby at the prom
You never got to graduate
it’s such a pity
She was so pretty.
She could have been the President.

When you hit the dance floor
Your hair goes everywhere, you don’t care
you know that you’re adored, they all stare
you can dance like Fred Astaire

Don`t call me pretty
I want to be beautiful
Don`t call me pretty I want to be the Belle of the Ball
Don’t call me pretty.

(Oh she looks pretty in lace and frill oh she looks pretty in pink)

All the boys in line in single file
(Too short. Too thick. Too thin. Too fat.)

Waiting for a single kiss
(Too smart for my own good. Too this. Too that)

Baby doll your porcelain smile is sourly, scowerly, sourly missed

Don`t call me pretty,
I want to be beautiful
Don`t call me pretty
I want to be Belle of the Ball
Don`t call me pretty,

Look at me

hanging from
the Chandelier
Watch me *Sparkle* watch me fall

Look out look up I’m gonna fall.
